Our Tibetan Gau Dorje Balancing Pendant can be opened at the back like a small box. Gaus are worn around the neck by Tibetans as religious lucky charms, amulet, and medicinal herbs are kept in them.
Dorje is the Tibetan word for the Sanskrit term Vajra which is defined as diamond or thunderbolt. It’s also a kind of battle club that achieved its name through its reputation for hardness and invincibility.
The Dorje is often used in meditation rituals as a symbol of the union between the relative truth, represented by the experiences of everyday life, and the absolute truth - a state of being that we live in unity with nature and all that surrounds us. When used during meditation, the aim is to balance the masculine and feminine side of reality, and to achieve spiritual awareness.
This beautiful pendant is made of a gold-plated alloy. The Gau has a Dorje symbol with Turquoise as the center stone. Turquoise (and coral) are the traditional Tibetan stones found in most Tibetan jewelry.
